    Link Spreadsheet Data

Master interconnected workbook systems in LibreOffice Calc: Cross-Sheet Formulas, External File Linking, F4 Registered Databases, and Streaming Live HTML Web Data with Auto-Refresh.

    Chapter 6 Theory

    1. Referencing Data Across Sheets

    Same Document Cross-Sheet Reference:
    =$'Quarter 1'.B4

Uses dot notation. Enclose sheet name in single quotes if it contains spaces.

    External Document File Reference:
    ='file:///C:/Accounts/2026.ods'#$Sheet1.A1

Managed via: Edit > Links to External Files.

    2. Linking Registered Databases (F4 Key)

Pressing F4 (or View > Data Sources) opens the registered databases deck. Dragging a table icon from this browser into the spreadsheet copies records as an active linked data range.

    3. Linking to Live Web Tables (Sheet > Link to External Data)

Stream live tables from website URLs with periodic auto-refresh:

    1. Menu: Sheet > Link to External Data.

    2. Paste URL and press Enter.

    3. Select the HTML table (e.g. HTML_1).

    4. Check 'Update every' and set refresh frequency in seconds (e.g., 60).
